Francis A. "Frank" Kovalik

Francis R. "Frank" Kovalik, 88, of Catawba Island, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. He was born on November 23, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, the eldest son of the late Frank and Mary (Madger) Kovalik, and a graduate of John Hay High School. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and served in the European Theatre, including the "Battle of the Bulge". Francis retired after 37 years in the heavy construction industry with Raytheon/United Engineers & Constructors of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was employed in various Engineering and Administrative positions on major projects, such as: fossil and nuclear power plants (3 Mile Island), steel mills, and chemical plants. Due to the nature of his career, it necessitated moving from time to time. The projects were in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. For the past 34 years he has been a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton and a 65 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court #1640 and a past member of the Port Clinton Lions Club. Frank joined the Knights of Columbus in May 1962 and has been very active and held many offices: Grand Knight (1972-1974), District Deputy (1976-1978), 1977 Knight of the Year-Middletown, PA and co-chairman of the 1976 Knights of Columbus Bi-Centennial State Convention in Hershey, PA. At the present time he is a member of Port Clinton Council 1750 and Assembly #805. Survivors include his wife, Anne (Groholy) of 58 years and daughter Kristina of Sandusky, Ohio, and brother: Richard (Bonnie) of Medina, Ohio. He was an Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers: Jim and Paul (Alicia); sisters: Agnes (Michael) Bednar and Irene (Michael) Robatin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 3-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. On Friday, January 25, 2013, prayers will begin at the funeral home at 12:30pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 2pm at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1750, or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
