Frances E. "Frankie" Crawford Wainio

Frances E. "Frnakie" Crawford Wainio Frances Elizabeth Crawford Wainio, 92, died Monday, April 25, 2016 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. Frankie was born June 22, 1923 in Cooleemee, North Carolina, the daughter of Lola Carter and John Grier Crawford. A graduate of Appalachia State University, Frankie served as a corpsman in the Navy during WWII. After being discharged from the Navy, Frankie moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she worked first as a bacteriologist for the City of Cleveland, then as a 1st grade teacher in Fairview Park. Frankie married Harry Jacob Wainio on December 27, 1949 and the couple had two children. They built a home in Fairview Park and in 1987 they moved to Marblehead. Frankie loved to play bridge and enjoyed volunteering in the community. She was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church, the WAVES, Western Reserve Chapter #71- Order of the Eastern Star, and the Martha Pitkin Chapter of the DAR. Survivors include her son, Jack (Marilyn) Wainio of Wellington, Ohio; grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) Wainio of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Elizabeth "Liz" Wainio of Elyria, Ohio; great-grandsons, Corbin, Riley, and Carter Wainio of Perrysburg, Ohio; sister, Edna Harding of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mariola Crawford and Amy Myers; twin brother John G. Crawford; her husband Harry and daughter Judy. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 4:00 7:00 pm at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Lakeside-Marblehead, OH where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, April 29, 2016. Pastor Vern Shepherd will be officiating. Interment will follow in Clemons Cemetery, Marblehead, OH.
