Florence May Edmonds, 95, who resided at the Chalet at the Vineyards on Catawba, died on Thursday, February 25, 2016. She was born July 20, 1920 in Fremont Ohio, the daughter of Clarence LeRoy and Frances (Upton) Rumery. On January 8, 1944, she married Dana E. Edmonds of Millinocket Maine, who died in 2007. Florence graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1938, and from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland Ohio, and was licensed as a registered nurse. She was accepted into the Army Nurse Corp in 1943, but when she chose to marry Dana, she could not serve since the army did not accept married nurses. Florence began her nursing career at Mt. Sinai hospital, then in Colorado where she followed Dana as he trained with the Army's 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops. While her husband fought WWII in Italy, Florence resided in Millinocket, Maine with Dana's parents until Dana's return. After the war, Florence and Dana raised six children, and eventually moved to Port Clinton. She also worked as a private duty nurse while residing in Maine and Ohio, and finally in Port Clinton. She worked as a nurse at the H.B. Magruder Hospital serving in various capacities, especially as an emergency room nurse and as a maternity nurse. After her retirement from nursing, Florence became a successful Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, was active in Christ Renews his Parish, attended the Toledo Diocesan Lay Ministry Program, and was active in many bible and catechism study groups. Survivors include her children William (Lynn) Edmonds of Celina Ohio, Lea (Dr. James) Ball of Orlando Florida, Yvonne (Maury) Hall, and Madeline Dubbert of Port Clinton, and brother Lee of Columbus, Ohio. She leaves fourteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dana, daughters Theresa Clemons and Rita (Gary) Sharples, granddaughter Sarah Hall, and sisters Frances Bowles and Yvonne Weichman, Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 10 am until 12 pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Prayers will then begin at noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery alongside her husband.
