Evelyn G. Ahrens

Evelyn G. Ahrens, 93 of Catawba Island, died Saturday at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born May 28, 1914 in Port Clinton, the daughter of the late Julius & Elizabeth (Hensen) Johnson. Evie graduated from Port Clinton High School and the Tiffin Business School and was employed at the former Erie Army Depot and then the Clerk of Courts office from which she retired after many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Catawba Island Club, the Elk's Lodge, the Riverview Auxiliary and the VIP Magruder Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards with several different bridge groups. Surviving are her daughter, Diane (William) Schroeder-Spring of Highland Heights, OH; grandsons, Scott, Bradley and Mark; three great-grandchildren; a step- son, Merle (Martha) Ahrens of Port Clinton; step daughters, Nanabelle Williams of Missouri, Brenda May of Florida, and Faye Sherry of North Carolina; ten step-grandchildren and fifteen step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Brenton J. Ahrens in 1973, a son, Dale Schroeder in 1997, and her parents. The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. Saturday until the time of services at 1 P.M. Saturday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. The Rev. Karl Kessler will officiate and interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 5000 Rockside Road, Suite 310, Independence, Ohio 44131.
