Eugene L. Nickel

Eugene L. Nickel, 82 of Oak Harbor, OH died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at The Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH. He was born July 21, 1934 in Fremont, OH to the late Melvin and Clatys "Kate" (Hetrick) Nickel. On November 3, 1952 he married the former Joann K. Petersen at the former Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway, OH. Eugene drove truck for 35 years for Dallas & Mavis Forwarding Company, Toledo, OH. He was also a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and taking his canine friend "Roxy" for rides on the golf cart. He was a member of the former Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Joann of Oak Harbor; sons: John Nickel of Port Clinton, OH, Randall (Debra) Nickel of Oak Harbor, OH, Michael (Shawn) Nickel of Rocky Ridge, OH and Lesley Nickel of Fremont, OH; grandchildren: Amy Jo Nickel, Heather (Aaron) Hall, Randall Lee (Monica) Nickel Jr, Michael (Kristan) Nickel Jr, Melissa (Jeff) Neugent, Mindy Fenton, Amber Nickel, Tyson (Shelly) Nickel, and Corene Nickel; 8 great- grandchildren; ex- daughter- in- law Lisa Nickel; special niece Judy Webb and special nephew Paul Kaiser; brothers Merle Nickel of Fremont, OH and Myron (Audrey) Nickel of Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Robin Lynn Carter, granddaughter Kelsey Carter, brother Wayne Nickel and sister Verna Mae (Kaiser) Stuckey. Services will begin at 1pm Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel, where the family will receive friends from noon 1pm. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingsway, OH. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Luther Home of Mercy or a charity of the donor's choice.
