Eugene A. Sarty

Eugene A. Sarty, 84, of Catawba Island Ohio died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on September 11, 1929 in Gypsum, Ohio, the son of the late August and Kathryn (Glowacki) Sarty. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Navy where he served his country until he was honorably discharged. On September 15, 1956 he married Joyce Rickner and she survives. Eugene worked for the U.S. Gypsum Company in Gypsum, Ohio where he inventoried mines. He then went to work at the former Uniroyal Industrial Plant in Port Clinton as a lab technician and as an independent consultant until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, and member of the American Legion Post #113, Port Clinton. He enjoyed playing BINGO and would go anywhere he could find the game being played. He also enjoyed fishing, especially on Lake Erie. Eugene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; children: Brian Sarty, Scio, Ohio; David (Lisa) Sarty, Port Clinton; and Dianna (Jim) Bloomfield, Republic, Ohio; four grandchildren: Hannah, Dean, Paul seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen Smidutz, Wanda Short, and Betty (Robert) Wood, all of Port Clinton; brother: August (Jane) Sarty, Boise, Idaho, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per Eugene's request, cremation has taken place. Private family graveside services will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton at a later date.
