Ernie Hutchinson

November 6, 1941 — November 2, 2024

Ernie Hutchinson, 82, of Gypsum, Ohio, passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord, at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Ernie was born on November 6, 1941 in Ironton, Ohio to Harry and Geneva (Aldridge) Hutchinson. Ernie relocated to Port Clinton as a young man in 1957 to secure work and build his own life. It was in Port Clinton that he met and married the love of his life, Beverly Britt on March 16, 1963. Ernie and Beverly were devoted and faithful for 61 years and created their family legacy together.

Ernie was employed at G & C Foundry in Sandusky for 41 years as an ironworker and was a loyal member of UE Local 714. Ernie was known for his hard work ethic and his selfless commitment to his family his entire life. He had a fierce and protective love for his mother, mother-in-law, siblings, and many nieces and nephews. He never turned away anyone that needed his help or guidance. Ernie was most proud of his role as a husband, a father to his four daughters and a grandfather to all of his grandchildren. Ernie helped care for and nurtured his family to love and respect God and carry themselves with dignity, honesty, and respect to everyone.

In his retirement years his greatest joy was taking care of grandbabies and being a steadfast and strong influence for them. He was proud to be “Poppy” to them all. Ernie’s kind, fair, and loving presence will be missed by all that knew him.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife: Beverly; daughters: Tammy (Ron) Huskey of Gypsum, Heidi Holcomb of Gypsum, Kelly (George) Boyer of West Branch, MI, Jenny (Terrence) Wadsworth of Gypsum; sisters: Norma Jean Blackstock of Jackson, Ohio, Lorene (Wayne) Horner of South Webster, Ohio, Susan (Roger) Horner of Oak Hill, Ohio; grandchildren: Ernie (Jessy), Rose (Noah), Jessica, Ron, Alicia (Josh), Rebekah (Matthew), Kelsey, Christina, George, Annmarie, LeRoy; great-grandchildren: Kale, Jack, Lilly, Audrey, Noah, Isabell, Ivy, Matty, Naomi.
