Elsa Cordula (Mathias), Nye, 86 of Oak Harbor, Ohio passed away on Saturday June 24, 2017 in Sandusky, Ohio under the loving care of her children and Stein Hospice. Elsa was born in Alvada, Ohio to Earl and Eulalia Mathias on May 2, 1931. She went to New Riegel School and went on to obtain a cosmetology license at The Tiffin Beauty Academy. She met her future husband, Philip Allen Nye at a restaurant he worked at in Tiffin as well. After getting married in 1952 they worked together at The Black Angus restaurant in Kalida, Ohio and then eventually became the owners of The Village Inn, a bar and restaurant in Alvada for about 10 years. Elsa later worked at Aim Packaging/Silgan Plastics for about 13 years, before obtaining her realtor license and working at both Bolte Real Estate then later at Batdorff Real Estate. She did not fully retire until she was age 80! Elsa showed her love for family and friends through her phenomenal baking and cooking. She loved spending time with family and friends and most of all while having some wine and playing Euchre. It didn't matter who you were, she wanted to win the Euchre game! She most recently discovered her hidden talent for art as she started selling her "paintings" on eBay with the help and love of her daughter-in-law, Kelly Nye. Elsa is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Eulalia; sons, Steve and Greg, as well as her husband Phil. Elsa is survived by sons, Chris, D.J. (Vicky), daughter Elise (Kevin), sons, Aaron (Renee) and Nathan (Kelly); 10 grandchildren, Tressa, Mindy, Adam, Philip, Elizabeth, Meagan, Ryan, Abbey, Nicholas, Dylan; and 4 great grandchildren; Casey, Isobel, Finn and Dexter.
