Eleanor R. Humphrey

Eleanor Ruth Humphrey, 81, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on August 1, 1928 in Port Clinton, the daughter of the late Howard L. and Justina (Rofkar) Lafer. On June 6, 1953, she married Marvin Humphrey and he preceded her in death on August 12, 1994. Eleanor worked as the chief of computer operations for D.I.A. testing site in Columbus, Ohio until her retirement in 1989. She was a founding member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Catawba Island, where she was active in the WELCA, and helped out with numerous fundraisers at the church. She was an original member of the Catawba Chapel Mothers; she was very active with the Catawba Blood Mobile; volunteered for the Ottawa County Board of Elections; was known as the "Cookie Lady" as she enjoyed taking bus trips with St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church out of Oak Harbor, and would make cookies for everyone going on the trip. She also made afghans for every grandchild and great grandchild in her family. Her hobbies included baking, knitting, quilting, and sewing. Survivors include her children: David C. (Susan) Boss, Mount Vernon, OH; Nadine G. (Dennis) Darr, Oak Harbor, OH; Dale L. Humphrey, Port Clinton; and Donald K. (Kim) Humphrey, Port Clinton; grandchildren: Noah C. Boss, Karen (Thomas) Biggs, Carrie (Jason) Sidell, Francine (Eric) Hensen; great grandchildren: Andrew Biggs, Katherine Biggs, James Sidell, Dakota Goon and Zachariah Landrum; cousins, brothers of the heart: Marvin (JoAnn) Grover and Andrew (Helen) Grover, both of Port Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law: Martha Humphrey, and sister: Evelyn Bostater. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 1, 2010 from 2-8 PM at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2370 NE Catawba Road, Catawba Island, with Reverend Kurt Borows, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.
