October 9, 1955 — September 2, 2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Earl (Doak) Kyle McDavitt, 62, of Port Clinton, Ohio, on September 2, 2018. The son of Margaret J. (Rider) & Earl I. McDavitt, Earl K. was born on October 9, 1955 in Port Clinton, Ohio. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and then continued through the Port Clinton Public Middle and High Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy but was subsequently discharged for medical reasons. Earl began a distinguished career at U.S. Gypsum in the Paper Mill in August 1974. He quickly rose through the ranks to General Foreman before they decided to close the Paper Mill in 2008. In September 2014, after 40 years of service he retired ending his career as a Foreman in the Supply Chain Department. Earls life was blessed with 4 children and 7 grandchildren. It was with his children that he shared his love of the water making countless family memories shared at their family pool. After his children were raised, Earl turned to other endeavors to fulfill his life. It was then that he joined the Elks Lodge 1718, Port Clinton. Their mission of service spoke to him and he achieved one of the highest honors at the local level, serving as Exalted Ruler in 2017-2018. It was also during this time that he met and married his wife, Wendi Marsh (Boyle). Upon the conclusion of his time serving as Exalted Ruler, Earl and Wendi began their next adventure. They bought a travel trailer and set out to see the Country. Earl was many things, a loving son, father, brother, husband, uncle, and friend. He had a love for life, a big laugh and even bigger heart. His presence was immediately felt when he entered a room and those rooms will forever be a little dimmer for his absence. Earl leaves behind many loved ones. Wendi (Boyle) McDavitt, his wife. three sons; Timothy Allen (Carrie) McDavitt, Earl James McDavitt, Michael Patrick (Kati Spees) McDavitt and one daughter, Eleanor Rose. Grandchildren; Alysa McDavitt, Justin McDavitt, Philip McDavitt, Jennifer McDavitt, Sampson Losey, & Autumn McDavitt, his father, Earl I. McDavitt. sisters; Peggy (Ernie) Taylor, Kay (Ron) VanDeusen, Terri (Scott) Fox, & Mary Ann McKee (Michael Maier) and many nieces & nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret (Rider), grand-daughter Olivia (McDavitt), nephew Wesley (Fox), and aunt Dorothy (Hoag). Earl will lay in rest at Neidecker, Leveck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 1pm to 8pm. The Elks Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 7pm at Neidecker, Leveck & Crosser Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio at 10 am on Saturday, September 8, 2018, with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Rushau Cemetery, Carroll Township, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Elks National Foundation.
