Duane E. Jess

Duane E. Jess, 88, of Carroll Township, Oak Harbor, OH, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans' Home, Sandusky, OH. He was born near Graytown, OH on July 4, 1926, a son of Henry & Mary (Schlipf) Jess. A lifelong farmer, Duane was a U.S. Army Infantry veteran of World War II, serving in Italy, and was a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor. He was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston, OH. On April 29, 1950, Duane married the former Delores J. Wittman, and she preceded him in death on May 10, 2008. He is survived by his son, Bradley Jess, Oak Harbor, and sisters, Marian (Melvin) Hieberger, Sandusky, and Louise Scott, Vermilion, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Walter, Ervin, Herman, & Franklin Jess; and sisters, Leona Rose, Dorothy Rose, and Donna Mae Biglin. Friends may call from 2-8pm Sunday, with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11am at Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston. Interment will follow in Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH, where military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #114 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8732.
