Douglas J. "Skip" McDougall, Jr., 71, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Providence Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio, after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was born on September 11, 1946 in Port Clinton, the son of Douglas J. and Vera (Windnagel) McDougall, Sr. He married his best friend and loving companion of 12 years, Patti (Brewer) Shilling, on December 5, 2017. After graduating from Port Clinton High School in 1964, Skip enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Springfield for 4 years as a ships barber. He worked as a park ranger supervisor at East Harbor State Park in Danbury Township for several years and then went to work on the assembly line at Standard Products in Port Clinton. For 28 years, Skip was employed at New Departure in Sandusky in the shipping and receiving department until his retirement in 2002. He retired a second time in October, 2017, from the Ottawa County Auditors Office where he was the weights and measures inspector. For the past 35 years he has proudly served as a Reserve Deputy at the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office, most recently as a security deputy at the Ottawa County Courthouse. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton; lifetime member of the American Legion Post 113, Port Clinton; and a member of the Erie Shores Cruisers Car Club. He was a car enthusiast, especially classic cars, sports cars and hotrods. Over several years, Skip, along with his sons, rebuilt a 1941 Pontiac Super Chief, which he proudly cruised around town for many years. He enjoyed listening to music from the 60s, watching old westerns, driving his red Boss Mustang, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Patti; children, Doug (Deborah) McDougall, Diane (Edward) Ball, and David (Bridget) McDougall, all of Port Clinton; step daughters, Sarah (David) Odum, of Lewis Center, Ohio and Amy Shilling, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Ryan, Hailey, Olivia, Mason, Thomas, Miranda and Emily; brother, David (Claudia) McDougall, of Port Clinton, brother-in-law, Vaughn (Deborah) Brewer, of Summerville, South Carolina; 4 aunts: Audrey Sprenger, Joanne Grover, and Donna Christensen of Port Clinton, and Phyllis Miller of Sandusky; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, many friends, and his loyal canine companion, Sheba-weez. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathy Bunning. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton on Saturday, December 16, 2017 beginning at 9 am with a memorial service at 11 am.
