Douglas E. Thierwechter, of Catawba Island, and formerly of Houston, TX and Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 at his home.
Doug was a graduate of Oak Harbor High School, was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Miami University, Oxford, OH and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma fraternities. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Doug retired in 2014 as Executive Director of the Marathon Oil Company, U.S. Steel, and USX Group of companies following a successful 32 year career. He also served on the Gordon Lumber Holdings Company Board of Directors.
He was a member of the Catawba Island Club, the Kenwood Golf & Country Club, Bethesda, MD, and was a former member of the University Club and Capitol Hill Club, both in Washington, D.C., and the Port Clinton Yacht Club.
Doug is survived by his sisters, Martha Guehl and Janet Mowry, brother, Michael Thierwechter, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, David E. & Jeanne M. (McLaughlin) Thierwechter.
Celebration of Life services will be private and his cremated remains will be scattered in Lake Erie between South Bass and Rattlesnake Islands.
