Dorothy M. Murray, 84, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon, OH. She was born in Oak Harbor on February 28, 1921, a daughter of the late George R. & Lenora (Roderick) Young. Dorothy was a graduate of Oak Harbor High School where she excelled in basketball and other sports, and was the first woman inducted in the Oak Harbor High School Athletic Hall of Fame. During World War II, Dorothy was employed at the former Erie Ordinance Depot, and was also a champion tennis player. She married Robert F. Murray on July 26, 1946, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2005. Dorothy was an avid bowler, having won the state championship in doubles, and was a member of the Queen’s League in Toledo for over 20 years. Dorothy and Bob were founding members of the Oak Harbor Golf Club where they won numerous championships. She won her last individual championship at age 80. Dorothy was an active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and also worked in the office. She also worked at the Oak Harbor Utilities Office and for the Oak Harbor Post Office. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Murray, Bryan, TX and James (Pat) Murray, Oregon, OH; granddaughter, Jennifer Murray, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and William Young; and sisters, Delores Elliott, Jane Madison, and Marilyn Mangette. The family will receive friends from 4-9 P.M. Thursday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday. Rev. John W. Bock will officiate, and interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
