Dorothy M. “Dottie” Patrick, 96, of Lakeside, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, OH. She was born July 19, 1926 in Newark, OH, the daughter of Bernard N. and Fannie (Schick) Wells. During World War II Dottie earned her pilot’s license and served in the Ohio Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. She acquired a commercial, instrument, multi-engine and an instructor’s license. She was awarded the Civil Air Patrol’s Congressional Gold Medal by Gov. John Kasich for her service in the Civil Air Patrol. She married Robert Patrick in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 2003. Dottie was a pilot and a pilot instructor. She was the fourth woman in the United States to build and fly her own plane. Along with her husband, she enjoyed flying and boating. She also enjoyed showing horses. She worked for Griffing Flying Service and Piper Aircraft delivering planes where needed. Dottie flew over 5000 hours in her lifetime and in 2001 she was appointed as a trustee of the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport Authority. She was also a real estate agent in the Peninsula Area.
Surviving are her children: Carol (Charles) Ihnat of Catawba Island, Dan (Suzie Butler) Patrick of Stuart, FL, Patti (Don) Stayancho of Marblehead, Ted (Anita) Patrick of Marblehead; grandchildren: Kali Stayancho, Jenna Stayancho, Cole (Kari) Patrick, Brianne (John Pagliaro) Patrick; great-grandchildren: Adalyn Ross, Connor Patrick, Chloe Patrick, Fisher Stinchcomb and Olive Patrick-Pagliaro. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister: Jean Rhodes.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Lakeside-Marblehead, OH. A private service and burial will be held by the family. A Celebration of Dottie’s Life will be on Friday from 12:30 noon – 2:30 pm at Catawba Island Club in the Harbour Room.
