Dorothy Jean "Dot" Gravengaard, 89, of Catawba Island, Ohio and formerly of Ottawa Hills, Toledo, Maumee, and Akron, Ohio died Monday, January 6, 2014 at Edgewood Health & Rehabilitation Center, Port Clinton, Ohio. She was born May 20, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Delos Marquis Palmer, Sr. Founder and First Dean of the College of Engineering at The University of Toledo and Christina Jarvey Palmer. She was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School. She married the love of her life Philip Louis Gravengaard, Sr. on September 17, 1942, prior to his service in the Army Air Corp in Guam. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1977. Dot was a very loving mother and grandmother, a homemaker and an excellent dress designer, seamstress, tailor and bridge player. She enjoyed dancing, playing tennis and golf and was a long time volunteer at the Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio and Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Surviving are her sons: Philip Louis (Barbara Swartzbaugh) Gravengaard, Jr. of Catawba Island, Barry Lee (Teresa Ford) Gravengaard of Holland, Ohio, William Lee Gravengaard of Swanton, Ohio; grandchildren: Amy Elizabeth (Edward) Keller of Hermosa Beach, CA, Philip Louis Gravengaard III of Sedona, AZ, Kelsey Rose Gravengaard of Holland, Ohio; brother: Delos Marquis (Anne) Palmer, Jr. of Naples, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Grace Palmer (James) Ross and second husband James A. Frauenhoff. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, Sylvania, OH.
