Doris L. Biro, 98, of Marblehead, OH passed away Tuesday, September
26, 2023 at Otterbein North Shore. She was born December 31, 1924 in
St. Charles, MO, the daughter of Ben and Opal (Seeberger) Worful. She
married Elmer J. Biro on September 16, 1946 and he preceded her in
death on March 21, 1999. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Marblehead, OH where she was active on the Altar Rosary
Society and served on the Fr. Shaefer Scholarship Fund.
Doris was a pioneer in her younger days as she was fascinated with
airplanes and flight. She would spend countless hours at a small local airfield as a teenager
watching airplanes take off and land. By her 18th Birthday Doris acquired her Pilot's License and by the age of 20 she became a Certified Instructor!
At age 21, Doris became a 50% Owner of a Flight School based at Lambert
Field in St. Louis. Not only was Doris a pilot in a time when there were very few woman pilots
(1945) but also an instructor! Elmer Biro from Marblehead, Ohio was serving in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII also had the desire to become a pilot and as fate would have it
attended Doris' Flight School. The rest as they say "is history" and Doris and Elmer were married in 1946. Eventually, Doris sold her interest in the Flight School and they moved
back to Marblehead so Elmer could join the Biro Mfg. Co. business. She and Elmer started a family in 1948, and brought 4 children into this world in 6 years.
Surviving are her children: Michael (Connie) Biro, Richard “Dick”
(Janie) Biro, DeLite Biro Vogley all of Marblehead; grandchildren:
