Doris J. Kocik

June 26, 1935 — September 10, 2014

Doris J. Kocik, 79, most recently residing in Mount Pleasant, SC and formerly of Port Clinton, Ohio, peacefully passed away on September 10, 2014. Born on June 26, 1935, the only child, of Norman F. and Alice (Haack) Wilka in Williston, Ohio. She was a proud 1953 graduate of Clay High School and spent the next ten years working at Owens-Illinois. On June 1, 1963 she married the love of her life, Joseph J. Kocik and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2007. Doris was a woman of faith with a servant's heart; she was always actively involved with her church as organist, at both Peace and Resurrection Lutheran churches, choir director, women's circles, and she hand crafted numerous beautiful banners, but most of all loved sharing her gifts to the glory of God through her music. She played cornet in the Clay marching band and returned for many alumni band gatherings as well as playing in the Port Clinton community band for many years. Doris was a seamstress and knitter crafting many costumes, dresses, baby afghans, sweaters; while raising her daughters she served as a 4-H advisor, classroom and booster volunteer, attended every recital, concert, lesson, sporting event and had a song or tune for every occasion. Always willing to bake a pie or bring a dish, Doris and Joe were happiest if they were on the road somewhere --- visiting friends, gatherings with "the cousins", enjoying an impromptu picnic or simply cruising for ice cream. In later years many of those talents were shared with her beloved grandsons playing games, reading or singing to them or just spending time together. Of all her accomplishments, Doris' greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family; she taught by her examples, sacrifices willingly made, and genuine caring time spent with those she adored. She leaves all with the knowledge they were truly loved and each of these memories is a treasure for which we are richly blessed. Doris is survived by daughters: Lynn (Mark) Keefe, South Riding, Virginia and Beth (Brenden) Lo, Charleston, SC; grandsons: Duncan Alexander Keefe, Avery Joseph Keefe and Reese Joseph Lo. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 4:00 7:00pm at Neidecker, Leveck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 20th at 10:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 Jefferson Street, Port Clinton, celebrated by Reverend Kurt Borows, Jr. A bereavement luncheon will immediately follow in the Peace Fellowship Hall. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm at Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
