Doris H. Knowles

September 16, 1918 — November 17, 2008

Doris H. Knowles, age 90, died November 17, 2008, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton . She married her sweetheart, Frank S. Knowles, in 1939, and he died in 2001. Survivors include her children, Janet (Robert) Haisman of Oak Park, Illinois and Jack (Grace) Knowles of Elizabethton, Tennessee ; grandchildren Jacqueline, Benjamin, Rachel and Adam Knowles (fiancee Alma Arellano) and Juliet (Jeff) Cannon; and great-granddaughters Sage, Lindsey and Autumn Cannon. Other survivors include sister-in-law Louise Logan, brothers-in-law Lorence (Marie) and Richard (Eunice) Knowles, Gerald Forbes, Richard Elliott, Adriaan deWit, and Max Haven and a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents, Marcus and Elenora (Hendricksen) Harris, son David Knowles , sister Lois Elliott, sisters-in-law Dorothy deWit and Rosabel Haven, and brother-in-law Robert Logan preceded her in death. Doris was a long-time member of Miles Avenue Church of Christ in Cleveland , where she sang in the choir and was often a soloist. When she and Frank moved from Northfield to Lakeside, she became an active member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church , and she also ran the Lakeside Laundromat for many years. Doris was the happiest, friendliest person in the universe! She could often be found in the kitchen, whistling, humming or singing as she fixed the Thanksgiving turkey or baked one of her delicious loaves of bread or one of her famous coffeecakes. She will be remembered by all as the soul of goodness and kindness, and her memory will be treasured. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:30 PM at the Lakeside United Methodist Church, 450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio, with visitation to follow the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lakeside United Methodist Church, Milligan College , Edgewood Manor Nursing Center or Stein Hospice.
