Donald Layne Cranfield, 59, of Marblehead, passed away, Monday, May 15, 2014, at Stein Hospice, Sandusky OH, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born November 3, 1954, in Independence, LA, and married Frances Jean Lowe (Graytown OH) on April 25 1998 at Grace Baptist Church, Williamsburg VA. Until the recent housing market crash, Don was the Chief Financial Officer for Sona Homes, Fredericksburg, VA. Don was baptized on October 23 2011, at Gourdvine Baptist Church, Rixeyville VA. He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. From an early age, Don enjoyed sports. He was the quarterback of his little league football team and played short stop on his little league baseball team. In the evening and on weekends, he could always be found playing some kind of competitive sport with his brothers, friends, and his dad. He was a track star at Hahnville High School, Boutte, LA, where he set numerous school and state records. Don and his twin brother Dave were both awarded full track scholarships to Southeastern Louisiana University. After graduation, he and his brother Curt excelled in the sport of bodybuilding. He had an awesome sense of humor. No one could retell a story like Don; he always had family and friends laughing at the dinner table. As a loving husband, he enjoyed maintaining the lawn and gardens at his 6-acre Culpeper VA home, golf, snow skiing, hiking (Skyline Drive, the Appalachian Trail, The Colorado Trail) and woodworking, , After moving to his retirement home at Otterbein North Shore; he enjoyed watching television Swamp People, Pawn Stars, Duck Dynasty, and American Pickers were his favorites. Surviving Don are his wife, Frances of 16 years; Father, Harrell Cranfield, of Ama LA; Mother Nita Cranfield (nee: Jourdan) of Mt Juliet TN; two brothers, David of Evergreen CO, and Curtis (Vangie) of Clinton TN; sister Karen (Cornel) Woods of Mt Juliet TN; Nieces Kim (Brad) Hamilton of Byram MS, Jessica (Sean) Nichols of Haymarket VA; and nephew Jared Cranfield of Centreville VA. A memorial service will be held in Mt Juliet TN on Don's 60th birthday, November 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials for Don to The First Baptist Church of Algiers, P.O.
