Donald K. Wales

Donald K. Wales, 81, of Marblehead, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on November 15, 1930 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, the son of the late Herbert and Eileen (King) Wales. On August 25, 1951 he married Patricia Doris Serre of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Don served his country as a Captain in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was Plant Manager of Walker Manufacturing in Hebron, Ohio until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, Don and Pat moved to Marblehead in 1984 where he then took on a second career joining the staff as a Director for Lakeside on Lake Erie until 1998. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead. He was also a past member of the Rotary Club of Newark, Ohio and Past President of the Full Gospel Business Men's Association in Newark. He was also on the board of directors of the Crippled Children's board, YMCA board, and he was in charge of the United Way Large Firm Division Campaign, all In Newark. Because of his strong community values and tireless volunteer involvement, an award was named after him called the "Donald K. Wales Community Service Award", and awarded once a year to a deserving recipient. He was an avid Hockey and Michigan Football fan. Survivors include his wife: Pat; daughters: Deborah (Anthony) Goldberg, Columbus, Ohio; Laura (Charles) Miglietti, Keller, Texas and Stephanie Wales, Sunbury, Ohio; grandchildren: Aleksander Goldberg, Eric Miglietti, Andrew Miglietti, Nicholas Miglietti, Michael Miglietti; and great granddaughter: Addalynn Miglietti; nieces: Suzanne Earnest, Julie Granger, Lisa Lake, and nephew: Michael Leach. Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Richard G. Wales. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, with Father Daniel J. Ring officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
