Donald J. Shiets

Donald J. Shiets, 89, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Monday, August 14, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH. He was born in Fremont, OH on March 6, 1928, a son of the late Joseph & Loretta (Giebel) Shiets. Don was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Fremont. He was a retired employee of the former Kelsey Hayes, Kingsway plant, and worked with Don Rodenhauser at the former Don's Pastry Shop in Oak Harbor. A die-hard Cleveland Indians fan, Don also coached Little League in Oak Harbor for many years, and was a former square dance caller. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor and was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Oak Harbor Council #1944, and 4th Degree K of C, DeSoto Assembly in Fremont, Ohio. On February 1, 1958, Don married the former Lois M. Lenz, and she survives. Also surviving are their children, Tim (Jackie) Shiets, Tammy (John) Weaver, and Tom (Kerrie) Shiets; grandchildren, Jami (Jody) Overmier, Jonathan Shiets, Tyler (Allie) Weaver, Jordan (Emily) Weaver, Tabatha (Michael) Leidy, and Jason Shiets; 4 great-grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter on the way. Don is also survived by brothers, Elden & Edward Shiets. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Helen, Gerald, Norbert, Evelyn, Paul, Rosemary, and Roman. The family will receive friends from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor. Rev. Timothy F. Ferris will officiate, and interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fremont. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at the church.
