Donald E. Manly Jr.

Donald E. Manly Jr., 95, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Donald was born on February 14, 1921 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Donald E. and Mary (Deetz) Manly. On May 22, 1948 he married Janice D. Coleman who preceded him in death. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a decorated World War II veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. After serving his country, he began a 31 year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol where he rose to the rank of Major, in charge of the northern half of Ohio. Upon retirement, he taught Criminal Justice classes at Tri-C Western Campus. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, music, baseball and shooting. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Matthew Sr. (Denise); daughter-in-law, Cathy; sister, Onalette Sibert; grandchildren, Jeremy (Emily), Jason (Jessica), Hayley (Zachary) Saneholtz, and Matthew Jr., four great-grandchildren and companion, Barb Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Donald E. Manly III, sisters, Ruth Moretta and Mildred Sibert. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio from 10:30 am until a memorial service at 11:30 am conducted by the Reverend Richard Ellsworth, chaplain of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Interment will take place at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
