Donald Austin Yaussy

October 28, 1926 — January 23, 2021

Donald Austin Yaussy, 94, of Lakeside, Ohio passed away January 23, 2021 at Otterbein Assisted Living Center. He was born October 28, 1926 to Austin and Ruth (Sherer) Yaussy in Bucyrus, Ohio, one of five children. On December 19, 1948, Donald married Phyllis Marquart in Bluffton, Ohio. Phyllis preceded him in death in 2004. Donald graduated from North Robinson High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Bluffton College, graduating in 1950. He then attended Drew University Theological School in Madison, New Jersey, receiving his degree in 1954 and was then ordained into the Methodist ministry. As a pastor, he served churches in Coshocton County, Cardington, Cleveland, North Royalton and Oberlin, all in Ohio. The final twelve years of his ministry, he served in the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church doing financial field work under the direction of the New York office. Since retirement, he has lived in Lakeside, Ohio. Surviving children are Joan (Bill) Swank, Van Wert, OH; Diane Bishop (Stan Engelhart), Lansdale, PA; and Steven (Dana) Yaussy, Northglenn, CO. Also surviving is a brother, Richard (Erma) Yaussy, Newton, NC, eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Donald has donated his body to the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio. Friends and relatives may gather for a memorial service at Lakeside, OH on Friday, July 2 2021 at the Lakeside Memorial Garden, weather permitting. In the event of weather concerns, the service will be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church.
