Donald A. Smidutz, 80, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Friday, July 13, 2007 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton. He was born on November 24, 1926 in Oak Harbor, the son of the late Edward and Marian (Guntch) Smidutz. He married Helen Sarty on December 30, 1944 and she survives. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during World War II. He worked as a supervisor at the Erie Army Depot, Port Clinton, until its closing. He and his wife then bought the “Dairy Isle” which was located on the corner of Sand road and State Route 163, and he owned and operated it until it was sold in 1973. The “Dairy Isle” was famous and well known for offering “7 hot dogs for a dollar!” His hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Survivors include his wife: Helen; daughter: Joann Adams, Port Clinton; grandchildren: Joe (Trisha) Adams, Jeff (Melissa) Adams, Troy Binder, Chris Binder; Five Great Grandchildren; brothers: Robert (Rita) Smidutz, Tiffin, Ohio and William (Joan) Smidutz, Westminster, Vermont. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Barbara Binder; grandson: Stephen Adams; brother: John Smidutz; and sister: Corrine Foster. Per his request, there will be no visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
