Donald A. Beck

Donald A. Beck, 72 of Oak Harbor, OH died Wednesday, January 08, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee, OH. He was born September 7, 1941 in Fremont, OH to the late Donald F. and Dorothy M. (Walters) Beck. He was a 1959 graduate of the Salem-Oak Harbor High School. On September 17, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley J. Smith and she survives. Don was a truck driver and retired from Heineman Beverage, Port Clinton, OH in 2003. He also was an Ottawa County Deputy Sheriff, and a life- long farmer. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He also held memberships in the Oak Harbor Lions Club and the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718. To the islanders of Put- In- Bay he was known as "Big D" where he delivered beverages for over 20 years and where he developed many friendships. He enjoyed his Tuesday morning breakfast with "the boys" and the years he spent farming with Todd Winke. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley J. of Oak Harbor; children: Douglas A. (Bobbi) Beck of Oak Harbor, Wendy K. (Randy) Wilburn of Oak Harbor, and Scott A. (Andrea) Beck of Rochester, Minn; brother William (Beverly) Beck of Oak Harbor; mother- in- law Helen M. Smith of Oak Harbor; grandchildren: Kyle (Jeanna McWatters), Drew, Kaylee, and Annika; and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Tracy Beck. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Burial will be in Salem Twp. Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ Capital Improvement Fund or a charity of the Donor's Choice.
