.Derek R. Johnson, 26, of Toledo, Ohio and formerly of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 18, 2017 at his residence. He was born on February 11, 1991 in Federal Way, Washington, a son of David and Cindy (Verkin) Johnson, Sr. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 2009 and went to Baker College in Flint, Michigan where he received an associates degree in Criminal Justice. Derek was currently working as a Corrections Officer at the Toledo Correctional Institute. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be seen golfing with friends, or fishing on Lake Erie. He was an avid Michigan and Seattle Seahawks fan. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his parents, David, of Tacoma, Washington; and mother, Cindy, of Port Clinton; brother, David (LeAnndra) Johnson, Port Clinton; half brother, Trevor Tofstad, California; niece, Madelynn Johnson; nephew, Caleb Johnson; maternal grandparents, Ed and Elaine Verkin, Catawba Island; paternal grandmother, Shirley Siewert, Beech Grove, Indiana; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 12 pm until 8 pm. On Friday, December 22, 2017, prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.
