Dennis M. Naylon, age 78, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 24, 2019. Denny was born September 18, 1940 in Solon, Ohio. He was graduate of Solon High School, attended John Carroll University, served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of the Put-In-Bay American Legion, Post 542. He was active in the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) and North Coast Ohio ACBS, winning several awards for his Chris Craft "Sassy." As a child, Denny spent summers at Put-In-Bay at his familys cottage where his love of the water and close community began. In 1970, he moved his young family from Cleveland to become year-round residents. Denny was a founding member of The Crews Nest and worked at The Ohio State University Stone Laboratory, most notably as the Captain of the RV Hydra. In 1981, the family returned to Cleveland where Denny took a position with Sterling Engine Supply Company, now Jasper Engines, developing their marine engine division. Upon retirement, Denny returned to Put-In-Bay converting the "Tooth Acre" summer cottage into a year-round residence. Denny had a love for classic cars, old wood boats and the latest technology. He could fix just about anything with duct tape and a toggle switch. He was never without a dog, preferably one named Jake. He believed in driving fast, long visits on the porch and always eating dessert first. Denny is preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Naylon, DDS and Miriam (nee Moir), and brother, J. Robert "Bunny" Naylon. He is survived by his wife, Kathy (nee Bradley); former wife, Margaret (nee Corrigan); brother, Terry (Linda) Naylon; children, Nancy (Terry McCann), Maura (Jeff Schroeder), Michael (Meg Davies) and Katie (Casey Carty); step-children Violet and Paul Bradley; grandchildren, Beth McCann, Shawn (Melissa) McCann, Garrett and Caleigh Naylon, Owen, Shane and Molly Carty, Skyler Bradley; great-granddaughter Samantha McCann; and nieces, nephews and countless friends. The family would like to thank Violet Bradley whos care and companionship were of deep comfort to Denny, as well as Put-In-Bay EMS and Firelands Hospital for their unending support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Ron Brickner at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 620 Catawba Avenue, Put-In-Bay, Ohio on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. followed by interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Put-in-Bay, Ohio.
