Dee F. Hansford

Dee F. Hansford, 81, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky. He was born on April 16, 1930, in Kentucky, the son of Morris & Pearl (Coker) Hansford. Dee attended school in Franklin, Ohio, and formerly lived in Dayton, Ohio, and Elberton, Georgia. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go on fishing trips to Canada, and especially enjoyed a fish fry after a long day of fishing. Dee was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He loved hunting for squirrel, rabbit, and raccoons. Dee enjoyed reading, especially mysteries and westerns by Max Brand and Louis L'Amour. He was a boiler engineer, and was employed by the University of Dayton, retiring in 1992. On November 11, 1972, he married the former Nelda Whitacre, and she survives in Oak Harbor. Also surviving are his children, Robert Hansford, Franklin, Ohio, Barbara Tipton, Kettering, Ohio, Diann Stern, Waynesville, Ohio, and Rick Hansford, Franklin, Ohio; step children, Edwin McClannan, North Carolina, Valarie Wheeler, Savannah, Georgia, and Tami Sage, Dayton, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren and step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Earl Hansford, Aileen Middleton, Olan Hansford, and Juanita Waggle. The family will receive friends from 3-8 P.M. Thursday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday. Pastor Kyle Timmons will officiate, and interment will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
