David E. Thierwechter, 91, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio November 6, 1922, the son of Edgar & Alma (Blankmeyer) Thierwechter. David was raised in Oak Harbor, and was a graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor High School. He also was a graduate of Denison University and the Midshipmen school, while serving in the United States Navy. He also attended Northwestern University. An active member of the Oak Harbor business community, David operated Thierwechter Insurance Agency, and T & P Realty for many years. He was a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, and the Oak Harbor Rotary Club, where he was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Oak Harbor State Bank Company, and the Gordon Lumber Company. He served on the Board of Directors of Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH and the Oak Harbor Public Library Board of Trustees. David was a past president of both the Community Improvement Corporation and the Manufacturers and Contractor's Association. He was a founding member and past president of the Ottawa County Insurance Agents Association and the Ottawa County Realtors Association. David was also a member of Board of Elections in Ottawa County, the Port Clinton Yacht Club, and a former member of the Catawba Island Club. A Shriner with Zenobia Temple, he was also a member of the Ottawa County Shrine Club, the Port Clinton Elks, and the Moose Lodge in Port Clinton. On March 30, 1946, he married the former Jeanne McLaughlin, and together they had four children; Michael D. (Jill) Thierwechter, Indianapolis, IN, Douglas E. Thierwechter, Houston, TX, Martha Guehl, Findlay, OH, and Janet Mowry, Bowling Green, OH. Jeanne preceded him in death on January 25, 2014. Also surviving are their grandchildren, Heidi Acuna, Jason Guehl, Matthew Mowry, Ana Mowry, and Kathryn Thierwechter; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Carolyn Rader. There will be no services.
