David Cary Verbryke

February 7, 1957 — August 29, 2024

David Cary Verbryke, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024 in Kingston, Ohio. Formerly of Elmore, Ohio, David was born on February 7, 1957 to Robert and Harriet Verbryke in Toledo, Ohio. He was a 1975 graduate of Woodmore High School in Elmore. His extracurricular activities at Woodmore included playing coronet in the school band as well as being a member of the baseball team. Dave attended the University of Toledo, earning a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in 1979. His employment career path took him to the DuPont Fabrics and Finishes Plant in Toledo, where he was active in the local union, serving as recording secretary for a number of years. In 1993 he transferred from Toledo to a DuPont plant in Circleville, Ohio retiring in 2018.

Dave was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Elmore, being confirmed in 1971 and active in the church’s youth fellowship group. He was also a Boy Scout.

A man of many varied interests, Dave enjoyed both following various sports as well as participating. He was a lifelong Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, always hopeful for each to win that elusive championship. Dave was a polished softball player as well, playing in Elmore’s local church league as well as several other area leagues, helping his teams to win multiple championships.

Perhaps Dave’s greatest love was the great outdoors. He enjoyed many extended family camping trips, seeing sites from coast-to-coast throughout the United States, as well as solo camping adventures with his dog, Lady, the first of many stray dogs and cats that Dave rescued throughout the years.

Those who knew Dave knew him to be a very kind, considerate, and giving person who enjoyed spending time with close friends, especially his good buddies who gathered together with Dave on a weekly basis.

Let all who knew and loved him know that David is now truly free and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Robert M. Verbryke, Sr. and Harriet (Krueger) Verbryke. He is survived by brothers Robert, Jr. (Karen), William, James (Tami) and sister Lisa (John) Fork. He is also survived by his daughter Rachel Ratliff, and special friends Tom, Dude and Linda.
