Darlene M. Macko, 94, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born in rural Oak Harbor on July 4, 1928, a daughter of the late Lester M. & Helen (Fehr) Foreman.
Darlene attended St. John Lutheran Primary School in Oak Harbor and graduated from Elmore High School in 1946.
On September 10, 1955, she married Peter J. Macko, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2004 after almost 50 years of marriage. Darlene was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and Altar Guild member. She was very active in the Port Clinton Mothers of Twins Club, where she served as president and was chosen as “Mother of the Year”. Darlene especially enjoyed spending time with many friends in her Red Hat group “Latte Ladies”. In her early years, Darlene worked at The Ohio Lime Company in Woodville, Ohio, After many years of being a homemaker, she was employed at BCS Schools where she served as a secretary until her retirement. An avid card player and an excellent cook, she also enjoyed reading, games, and bird watching, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Darlene is survived by her children, Gary P. (Laura) Macko, Randall S. (Jacqueline) Macko, Amy J. Macko, and Carol S. “Cassy” (Jeffrey) Dornbusch, all of Oak Harbor; grandchildren, Dustin Macko, Allison (Matthew) Kaczynski, Daniel Macko, Emily Macko, Caleb Dornbusch, and Abigail Dornbusch, and great-grandchildren, Lydia and Lincoln Wadsworth. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine & Pat Florio.
Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Thursday at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 Ottawa St. Oak Harbor. Pastor Becky Bolander will officiate, and interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Following the services, a catered luncheon will be held at the church. Those planning on making a memorial contribution are asked to please consider the Oak Harbor Development Group, Riverview Auxiliary, or the memorial fund of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
