Daniel H. Rife Jr., 43 of Oak Harbor, Ohio died suddenly Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. He was born March 19, 1970 in Port Clinton, Ohio to Daniel H. "Shorty" Rife Sr. and Brenda (Andrews) Meinke. In 1984 he was confirmed at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor. Danny was a 1988 graduate of Oak Harbor High School and served in the United States Army during Operation Desert Storm. He was currently employed at United Rentals in Perrysburg, Ohio where he worked in the maintenance department and as a mechanic. He held memberships in the Athletic Boosters, V.F.W. Post #8732, and Marsh Club all in Oak Harbor and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18 of Cleveland, OH. He enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing and riding his Harley. Danny could always be found helping a friend. His "happy-go-lucky" attitude brought fun and smiles to everyone he met. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and loved watching his children participate in sports and swim in the pool when they were with him. Survivors include his children Megan and Alex Rife of Oak Harbor; father, Daniel "Shorty" (Faye) Rife of Oak Harbor; mother, Brenda Meinke of Curtice, Ohio; sisters, Lisa (Jay) Hoover of The Village, Florida, Lisa (Joe) Braun of Lindsey, OH, Angie (Joe) Blatt of Oak Harbor, Lori (Bryan) Abahazi of Graytown, OH, and Leslie Knerr of West Chester, Pennsylvania; brother, Matt (Julie) Reynolds of Oak Harbor; and his special family: Jim and Marcia Kania, Patrick and Megan Kania and family, and Teresa Kania. "Uncle Boone" will be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Rick Meinke and his dog, Gabby. Danny's family will receive friends from 12-8 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Interment will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with Military Honors presented by American Legion Post #114 and V.F.W. Post #8732.
