Daniel Edward Thompson, 65, found peace and eternal life on Monday afternoon, September 18, 2017 surrounded by his family while under the care of Stein Hospice. He was a 1969 graduate of Valley Forge High School in Cleveland. During childhood he enjoyed spending every summer at the family cottage on Johnson's Island where he and his siblings had the run of the entire island. After serving in the United States Army he was employed at the former LTV Steel in Cleveland. Dan moved to Marblehead to open the Surf Bait & Tackle shop and assist with operating the family business, Surf Motel & Campground, of which he later became the owner. After retiring in 2013 he enjoyed working as a Lakeside gate attendant and a ticket seller at the Marblehead Lighthouse. Dan achieved record-setting ticket sales that will be long-remembered by the employees, volunteers and his wife. He was a compassionate, caring man who always made sure the needs of his family and friends were met first. His favorite saying was "Stick with me, I'll teach you a thing or two." His children and grandchildren brought him a great deal of joy. Throughout their marriage and life on Johnson's Island Dan enjoyed traveling with his wife Dianne to visit dozens of lighthouses. Long daily walks with his dog Fiona always turned into an adventure that he would relate in great detail the moment they returned home. He had many talents including grilling the best pork chops, crafting pinecone wreaths and trees for Christmas gifts and the ability to fix nearly anything from the countless items he saved in his toolbox for just that purpose. Dan is survived by his wife Dianne Rozak; his favorite companion Fiona; sons Christopher (Allison) Thompson, Dale (Karina) Thompson, Douglas (Jen) Conway, daughter Jessica Overmyer, grandchildren Devin, Maggie May, Quinn and Henry Thompson, Caitlynn Thompson, Everett, Olliver and Isaac Overmyer, Jaden Thompson, Jocelyn Conway, Michael, Michelle and Christian Quiroga, brothers Donald (Bonny) and Harry and sisters Kimberli and Kathleen.
