Dale A. Solze, Md

Dale Austin Solze, M.D. of Oak Harbor, OH died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at his home under the care of Stein Hospice. He was born September 15, 1939 in Fremont, OH to the late Dale F. & Bertha (Huddle) Solze. He was a 1957 graduate and Valedictorian of Green Springs High School. Dale then attended The Ohio State University in undergraduate studies, medical school, and residency in Ophthalmology. Dr. Solze was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1969-1972. After being discharged, he returned to Ohio State to complete his residency, starting his own practice in July of 1974 and retiring in 2014. Dr. Solze held numerous designations, chairs, affiliations, and honors including: positions held at Fremont Memorial Hospital, active staff from 1974-2014, Chief of Staff 1978-1979, Chair of Surgery Department and served on the Board of Trustees 1989-1992. He was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Presidents Club and Buckeye Club at The Ohio State University and a member of the OSU Havener Legacy Society. Locally, he was a member of the Oak Harbor Marsh Club, Elks, Port Clinton Yacht Club and Oak Harbor Athletic Boosters. Dr. Solze was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening with his family and may have been the biggest Ohio State fan as an alumni and season ticket holder. Special thanks to Val Floro and Kathy Courtney for their unconditional love and support. Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie DeGrisky, whom he married June 16, 1990; sons, Dale J. "Smokey" (Susan) Solze of Gahanna, OH and Brian (Nicole Delphous) Lorensen of Pittstown, NJ; daughters Karyl (Russell) Stoner of Oak Harbor, OH and Holly (Rob) Wayland of Belleair, FL; 13 grandchildren; brother Norman (Kendra) Solze of Fremont, OH, and sister Carolyn Young of Green Springs, OH. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Claude Young. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10-12 and 2-4 PM at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor, with a Celebration of Life following from 5-9 PM at the Oak Harbor Golf Club, 10433 W. Oak Harbor SE Rd, Oak Harbor.
