Colleen Louise Nitschke

Colleen Louise Nitschke (Mears) passed away at home after a courageous struggle with lung cancer on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. She was born on February 7, 1935 in Buffalo, New York to Frank and Thelma Mears (Watzel). Colleen was a 1953 graduate of Sandusky High School where she sang in the choir. She worked at various jobs, most recently as a customer service representative at Blue Cross Blue Shield, from which she retired after 17 years. Colleen loved flea markets and antiques. She was known by many as the "linen lady" since she sold a variety of hand crafted lace and linen items in shows and flea markets from Toledo to Cleveland. She loved living in the Catawba Island area, and she enjoyed dancing and drinking an occasional Manhattan. Colleen is survived by her daughter Kelly Campbell (Dave Campbell) of Fremont, two granddaughters Jessie Campbell of Fremont and Lily Campbell of Nashville, Tennessee, grandson Graham Campbell of Fremont. Also surviving are sister Barbara Mears of Huron, and brother Ed Mears and his wife Inger from the Netherlands. A Celebration of Colleens Life will be held at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home in Port Clinton on Monday, June 11th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Sandwiches and coffee will be served. Donations may be made in her name to Stein Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
