CMSgt Mark W. Charlton (ret), 78, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Ottawa County Riverview Health Care Campus. He was born May 16, 1946 in Cleveland, OH the son of James and Ruth (Dvorak) Charlton. He married Susannah Lano on June 9, 1994. Mark served his country proudly for 35 years. From 1965 – 1973 he was active duty in the United States Air Force and then transferred to the Ohio Air National Guard 200th Red Horse Squadron at Camp Perry from 1973 – 2001. He was the vehicle maintenance supervisor and attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was a life member of the D.A.V., Sandusky Am Vets, Sandusky American Legion and the Port Clinton V.F.W. He was a fan of all Cleveland sports teams and enjoyed watching Drag Racing at Norwalk. He loved Mopar, especially his 1963 Plymouth Station Wagon Muscle Car. He was a lifelong fan of Pink Floyd and was active as a Dog Rescue Transporter with Cairn Rescue U.S.A and Col. Potter Cairn Rescue.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years Susannah; children: Jason Boss of Reynoldsburg, OH, Phillip (Melanie) Boss of Canal Winchester, OH, Kristi (Soun) Charlton of Darien, IL; grandchildren: Tyler Boss, Alyssa Boss, Kylee Boss, Sydney Pongphimkham, Hailey Boss, Gwen Pongphimkham; great-grandchild: Alayah Sharp; brother: Chris (Marlene) Charlton of North Olmsted, OH; sisters: Connie Charlton of North Ridgeville, OH, Lisa (Ray) Kinzer of Canal Winchester, OH; sisters-in-law: Maureen Blum of Boonton Twp., NJ, Kate (Denny) Howerth of Port Clinton, Roberta (Mike) Watson of West Bloomfield, MI; brother-in-law: Dick (Jami) Lano of Port Clinton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Jennifer Charlton and brother David Charlton.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH where memorial services will be conducted Saturday at 12:00 noon with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, 3620 E. State Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452.
