Clyde R. “Dick” Boger, 76, of Long Beach, Oak Harbor, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Riverview Cottage Cove, Oak Harbor. Dick was known to many as “the Boogieman”. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Allen County, Indiana to the late Clyde & Frances (Poisel) Boger. Dick served in the United States Air Force as a motor mechanic on the then new B-36 Bomber and worked for many years as a manufacturing engineer for the Dana Corporation, Antwerp, OH. In retirement he continued to pursue his lifelong hobby of fishing by becoming a charter boat captain on Lake Erie. Having operated “The Boogieman” for nearly two decades, he was known to his many friends, family, and customers as Captain Dick. He excelled in making his customers' fishing experiences memorable, and especially enjoyed taking children on his boat. Dick was also a long time woodworker, and was a “master of re-use” by making old or discarded objects into useful items. He also enjoyed painting, most notably on old plow blades. Dick was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Hicksville Eagles, and was a lifetime member of the Sherwood Veterans of Foreign Wars. On July 14, 1951, he married his loving wife, the former Carol Bakle, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Michael Boger, Oak Harbor, Jim (Deb) Boger, Arcadia, OH, Bill Boger, Oak Harbor, K.T. (Amy) Boger, Oak Harbor, Kathy (Bryon) Oskey, Burgoon, OH, and Greg (Dale) Boger, Chicago, IL; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Donnajean Begley, Hicksville, OH, Janice (Jerry) Burley, Hamilton, IN, Ralph (Sharon) Boger, Delta, OH, Arlos (Kenny)Franz, Hamilton, IN; sister-in-law, Nancy Boger, Wakarusa, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Tom Boger. The family will receive friends from 6-9 P.M. Thursday and from 1-3 P.M. Friday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday. A luncheon will be held at the Carroll Township Service Complex following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverview Cottage Cove or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
