Clyde "Jim" J. Greer

Clyde J. "Jim" Greer, 87 of Port Clinton, OH died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. He was born May 27, 1923 in Bristol, TN to the late Clyde L. and Irene K. (Alley) Greer. He was a 1941 graduate of Danbury Township High School. On January 5, 1943 he married the love of his life the former Doris M. Emmitt. Jim was a Veteran of World War II having served in the (Army) Air Corps. He was also a volunteer Fireman for the Perkins Township Fire Department, Sandusky and worked as a Reactor Operator for NASA Plum Brook before retiring from First Energy's Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant. He enjoyed playing his guitar with his band "The Mach 4" and later jamming with his brother Dick and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and boating. Survivors include his wife Doris, children: Diane, Carol, Daina, Trudi, and James C.; nieces Barbara Haman and Joyce Grau; nephews John Grau and Lawrence Grau; great nieces Alyssa Hamann and Tina Nason; great nephew Christopher Mowel; 8 great-great nieces and nephews and many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great Grandchildren. The family would like to especially thank Ryan L. for his assistance with the care of Jim. He was preceded in death by siblings: Mary E. "Betty" Grau, Paul R. "Dick" Greer, Jean K. Jones and Daniel K. Greer. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 5:00pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton, where the family will receive friends from 3-5pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Catawba Island Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Ottawa County Humane Society.
