Clifton G. Frye

Clifton G. Frye, 87, of Catawba Island, and formerly of Valparaiso, IN, and Naperville, IL, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Elkhart, IN, home of his daughter, after a brief illness. He was born in Port Clinton, OH, on December 13, 1918, the son of Virgil & Carrie (Rofkar) Frye. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1936, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1942. He was a Major in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and a meteorologist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1947. Mr. Frye was employed by the Amoco Oil Corporation in Tulsa, OK, Whiting, IN, and Naperville, IL. He retired in 1982 as Manager of Research and Development at the Amocao Research Center, having accumulated eight U.S. patents. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Port Clinton. Mr. Frye is survived by a daughter, Julia (Richard) Paulen or Elkhart; a son, Paul (Marilyn) Frye of Albuquerque, NM; an uncle, Paul Rofkar of Catawba Island; three grandchildren, Brian Paulen, Carrie Paulen, and Richard Frye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, the former Lillian McAuliffe, whom he married at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton in 1943, his parents, and his brother, Art, Don, and Jack. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Port Clinton, where the family will receive friends after 10 A.M. Saturday. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.
