Clifford A. Biggert, 92, of Oak Harbor, Ohio passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his home. He was born May 23, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio; the son of Henry and Ivah (Jeremy) Biggert. Upon reaching his 18th birthday he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served for six years including time during the Korean War.
It was a blind date set up by friends that blessed him with meeting Janis Boss. He married Janis on Jan. 16, 1954 and she preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2020. In the early years of their marriage, Clifford was a commercial fisherman utilizing his exceptional knowledge of Lake Erie. Being an avid outdoorsman also provided him the opportunity to work for Diamond Shamrock managing private marshland. He and Janis served as caretakers of the marsh, clubhouse and guests. Clifford was also employed with Erie Army Depot and First Energy as a security officer. He ended his professional career at Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station retiring in 1990.
It is difficult to put his life into words. He was the foundation of his family, instilling a sense of respect and pure enjoyment in the company of family. One of his greatest attributes was sharing his knowledge with others and helping people reach their goals. He was known for his storytelling and quick wit. His passion was in making people laugh. He never missed a chance to tell a joke and his eyes would twinkle when he knew he made you happy. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Equally, they have so much pride to have been raised by him and will hold tight to the amazing memories he taught in learning how to drive a boat, the tricks of catching the perfect fish, and always having the best (often creative) solution to any problem. In short, he made this world a better place. His unwavering love will be deeply missed. He was a member of the Oak Harbor High School Athletic and Music Boosters. He was a leader for the local Cub Scouts and a 4-H supporter. He was a member of VFW Post 8732, Oak Harbor; Camp Perry Shooting Club; and Oak Harbor Conservation Club.
Surviving are his children: Richard “Itch” (Tina) Biggert, Daniel “Ferd” Biggert, Cindy (Tom) Reinhart, Henry “Coke” (Jodi) Biggert all of Oak Harbor and Victoria (D.J.) Nye of San Diego, CA; 15 grandchildren: Jolene (Greg) Sandrock, Margie (Billy) Zunk, Patrick Winters, Shelly (Brian) Schultz, Jaime (Jim) Lang, Jackie (Joe) Kirby, Brittany (Jesse) Biggert, Brianna (Richard) Henderson, Tommy (Katie) Reinhart, III, Kylie (Trent) Nissen, Taylor (Tom) Siloy, Clifford (Lexi) Biggert, Adam Nye, Philip Nye, and Elizabeth Nye; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
