Clarence J. "Cal" Twarek, 81, of Lakeside, Ohio died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio, after a brief illness. He was born on October 29, 1928 in Marblehead, the son of the late Michael and Anna (Hanik) Twarek. Cal was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during the Korean War. On April 24, 1954, he married Marjorie Theisen and she survives. Cal worked as a bar machine operator at the former New Departure Plant in Sandusky, Ohio for 43 years until he retired in 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead; life member and past commander of VFW Post #7572, Marblehead; member of the American Legion Post #83, Sandusky; and also a member of the UAW Post #913, Sandusky. He enjoyed sports, including golfing, bowling, and coaching little league baseball. He loved to travel, especially to see his relatives in Slovakia. He also enjoyed making Halupki. Survivors include his wife: Marjorie; daughters: Jody (John) Law; of Kabul, Afganistan and Karen (Eric) Karim, of Sandusky, Ohio; son: Richard (Joanna) Twarek, of Oak Harbor, Ohio; grandchildren: Davina (Wysin/Law) Marraccini, Brandon Twarek, Dustin Twarek, Bethany Twarek, Mallory Law; great granddaughter: Zara Nicole Marraccini; twin brother: Larry (Betty) Twarek, of Marblehead; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother: Mike, brothers: Michael, John, Francis, and George Twarek; sisters: Ann Babcock, Mary Kokinda, Sophie Hallier and Helen Meterko. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, OH where members of VFW Post #7572 will conduct military services at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 13, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead at 11 am with additional visitation being held at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Reverend James Say will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being given by members of VFW Post#7572, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
