Clarabelle Long Bothe

August 19, 1924 — October 17, 2023

Clarabelle (Long) Bothe entered into eternal rest at Parkcliffe Memory Care in Northwood, OH, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Clarabelle was born to Ray and Anna (Drickhammer) Long on August 19, 1924, in their home on Fifth Street in Port Clinton. She graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1942. In later years, she enjoyed visiting with her classmates at their monthly class luncheons.

On July 21, 1946, Clarabelle Long and Donald “Bud” Bothe were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, and this union happily produced 4 children. Clarabelle was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. She also worked outside the home; first at Standard Products before she was married, and later, as one of the original employees of Uniroyal at Erie Industrial Park.

She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and taught Sunday School for many years at St. John Lutheran Church. She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, First Families of Ohio, and the Ottawa County Genealogical Society. She enjoyed playing bunco and pinochle, and she was on a bowling league for many years.

Clarabelle was predeceased by her husband and parents; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Milton “Butch” (Ethel) Long of Port Clinton, Donald (Ruth) Long of Owasso, OK, and Delbert (Kate) Long of Port Clinton; and her son-in-law, William “Bill” Wadsworth of Oak Harbor. She is survived by her children: Diane Wadsworth of Oak Harbor, Rebecca “Becky” Bothe of Oregon, OH, Marie Bothe of Oak Harbor, and Brian (Jill) Bothe of Port Clinton; her grandchildren: Tony Wadsworth of Oak Harbor, William (Karou) Wadsworth of Sterling, CO, and Ashley (Erin Daly) Godwin of Port Clinton; her great-grandchildren: Yurika Tami, Michael Malnichuck, Allie Wadsworth, Erik Wadsworth, Ryuto William Wadsworth, and Kaito Joshua Wadsworth; and several treasured nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation in Clarabelle’s name to Alzheimer’s research (www.alzheimersresearchfoundation.com) or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (www.macular.org).

The family would like to thank the staff at Parkcliffe Memory Care and Elara Caring Hospice for the loving care they gave to her and for appreciating her unique sense of humor.
