Claiborne Motsinger

Claiborne Motsinger, 85, of Lakeside, Ohio died Friday, February 3, 2012 at Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside, Ohio. He was born on May 22, 1926 in Medora, Indiana, the son of the late Stanley and Aretta (Eshom) Motsinger. In August of 1948 he married Patricia Gallagher and she preceded him in death on July 5, 1998. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served his country during World War II. Following the military service, he earned his degree in civil engineering at Rose Polytechnic Institute. After graduation he moved to Cleveland and started working at CEI Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. While working, he earned his master's degree in Business Administration, graduating from Case Western Reserve University. He worked at CEI (now known as First Energy) for 38 years, both as a civil engineer and as a manager in the computer systems area, spearheading projects that incorporated this new technology into the company's operations. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead; member of the Society of Professional Engineers; and a member of the men's breakfast club in Port Clinton. His hobbies included playing cards-especially bridge, fishing, and vegetable gardening. Survivors include his children: Tom (Patricia) Motsinger, Livonia, Michigan; Dick Motsinger, Bullhead City, Arizona; Joan (Keith) Wooley, Maumee, Ohio; Joe Motsinger, Westland, Michigan; Ann (Larry) Friedberg, Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren: Melissa (Paul) Bowers, Sean Motsinger, Caitlin Motsinger, Megan Friedberg, Jessie Friedberg, Craig Friedberg; great grandson: Thomas Bowers; special lady friend Irene Minier and dear sister-in-law Peg Hays and husband Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother: Terry Motsinger. The family would like to thank the staff at Otterbein North Shore and Stein Hospice for their care and support. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 2-5pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. On Wednesday, February 8, 2012 additional visitation will be held at St. Clarence Catholic Church, 30106 Lorain Road, North Olmsted, Ohio from 10am until a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, with Father Neil Kookoothe officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in North Olmsted. Memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside, Ohio.
