Charles Stepanian

November 29, 1921 — April 9, 2010

Charles Stepanian, 88, of Port Clinton and formerly of Lakeside-Marblehead, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 peacefully at home. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to October 1945. During his service to the country he was a member of the 112th Engineer Combat Battalion, the 1st Army at Omaha Beach and the 3rd Army at the Battle of the Buldge under General George Patton. Charles married Vembia Shipp of Flint Hill, Virginia, in 1957 and raised five children. He was an independent building contractor for over 30 years and also worked for US Gypsum until 1989 when he retired after 28 years of service. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl, in infancy, and a brother, Christopher. Survivors include his wife, Vembia, his son, Gregory (Bonnie) Stepanian of Oak Harbor, 4 daughters, Wanda Swope of Toledo, Pamela (Michael) Provo and Darlene (John) Bowser, both of Port Clinton, and Michelle (Mark) McGraw of Marblehead; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Papazian of Marblehead. Private graveside services will be held at Sackett Cemetery in Marblehead with Reverend David Gowen officiating. Memorial service arrangements are pending. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Stein Hospice Fund of the Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation, 135 E. Washington Row, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to one's favorite charity.
