Charles N. Myers

June 13, 1943 — November 1, 2023

Charles “Charlie” N. Myers, 80, of Marblehead, OH passed away from complications from Alzheimer’s on November 1, 2023 at Otterbein North Shore, Marblehead, OH. He was born June 13, 1943 in Port Clinton, OH to Charles W. and Anna E. (Pepon) Myers. Charles grew up in Marblehead, was a 1961 graduate of Lakeside (Danbury) High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green State University.

Charles married his beloved wife and soulmate Karen (Bennett) on April 30, 1977. They lived several years in southern Ohio but made their way back to Marblehead in their retirement years. Charles was a devout Catholic and family man. He treasured spending time with his wife, his daughters and their families, and especially his grandchildren. He adored anything to do with Lake Erie – boating, fishing, skiing and visiting the Marblehead Lighthouse.

Charles worked many years as an engineer and spent his later years employed by Whirlpool as a Tool & Die Maker. He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, OH. He was also a founding member of the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society.

He was an avid Ohio sports fan and a great athlete; accomplishments included being a three-sport high school athlete, playing lacrosse at BGSU and running many 5K’s (especially annually running in the Daisy Race in Marblehead). He cheered on the Indians, Cavs, Buckeyes and Browns (through many losses).

Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2009, Charles courageously fought the disease with dignity, grace, and a bit of humor. Karen remained faithfully and tirelessly by his side through this devasting disease.

Simply put, Charles was a great man. Shoveling snow off every neighbor’s driveway, tinkering with his tools in his garage in his old jean shorts, playing horse with his grandchildren, dancing the YMCA at any wedding, being the captain of his Catalina sailboat, devouring popcorn…he loved life and bought joy to those around him. In his final years, his two favorite words were Jesus Christ (IYKYK).

Surviving are his wife: Karen; daughters: Stephanie (Bill) Neighbarger of Hilliard, OH, Julie (Jon) Mutter of Powell, OH, Jill Myers of Upper Arlington, OH; grandchildren: Amanda Neighbarger, Elise Neighbarger, Samuel Mutter; sister: Anna Mae (Terry) Newman of Punta Gorda, FL; brother-in-law: Frank Zalar of Marblehead, OH and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Daniel Neighbarger; sister: Edna Zalar; brothers: Joe Myers, John Myers and an infant brother; and his loyal dachshund, Austin.
