Chad A. Sorensen

January 17, 1950 — November 26, 2024

Chad Arden Sorensen, 74 formerly of Oak Harbor, OH died Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Countryside Manor, Fremont, OH under family and Hospice Care. He was born January 17, 1950 in Fremont, OH to the late Martin Sorensen and Dorothy (Seitz) Koepke.

Chad attended The University of Toledo taking electrical engineering courses while holding various positions at The Toledo Trust Company, General Telephone Company and SOHIO/BP Refinery where he retired as an Instrument Technician.

Chad will be remembered by his family for having a big heart and lots of knee slappin' jokes, but most of all for being a good father. There wasn’t a person he came across that he wouldn’t talk their ear off. He had the quirk of giving everyone he knew nicknames, so you were lucky if you had one. Chad was an enthusiast of the outdoors – camping, hiking, fishing and exploring Indian mounds throughout Ohio. He enjoyed photography and even developed his own photos where his children, the family dog, and trains were often the subjects. He was often spotted sitting in his vehicle “train watching” on many occasions. His love for trains led him to help found the Mad River Railroad in the 80’s.

From the early 80’s to mid 90’s, Chad coached baseball. He also started a runner's club in the 80’s that led to the Apple Fest Run, along with starting the Oak Harbor Soccer League in 1985.

Survivors include his children: Melissa Sorensen-Gons (Jeremy Gons) of Clyde, OH and Wade (Kimberly) Sorensen of Gibsonburg, OH. His grandchildren include: Shawn Sorensen, Chloe Sutton, Dyllan Wargo (Olivia Sevits), Bryson (Kayla) Wargo; great-granddaughter Bella Sorensen; siblings: Janet (Sorensen) Harder, Galen Koepke, Randy (Debbie) Koepke, Keith (Rhonda) Koepke and Kathy (Barry) Cochran and sister-in-law Faye Sorensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas Sorensen, and brother-in-law Lee Harder.
