CAROLINE (ROHDE) BURR January 31, 1927 August 25, 2017 Caroline Frances (Rohde) Burr, 90, of Port Clinton, at the home of her daughter, peacefully slipped into God's waiting arms on August 25, 2017, holding the hands of both of her daughters. She was born on January 31, 1927, in Gypsum, Ohio to William and Geraldine (Miller) Rohde. Caroline attended school in Gypsum for grades 1-9, transferring to Port Clinton High School in 10th grade and graduating with the class of 1945. On June 7, 1947, she married Chester Burr (deceased). Her first job was with Erie Proving Ground at Camp Perry. She then began her career of over forty years of service to the citizens of Ottawa County first in the County Recorder's Office, then the County Treasurer's Office, and finishing her career in the County Auditor's Office. She was still working part-time well into her 70's. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where for many years she taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School superintendent. She was a member of the Progressive Mothers Club and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Caroline was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful mother, making many sacrifices to provide for her daughters. More importantly, she was always there with words of encouragement, along with her steadfast love and support. Caroline was an excellent cook and baker, often not needing to use recipes. She will be remembered for her delicious Sunday dinners and her love of Christmas. She especially adored her grandchildren, Ryan and Tiffany, taking them to Cedar Point and attending all their athletic events, band concerts, recitals, and plays. Their friends affectionately called her "Grandma Burr." She had a tender spot in her heart for animals, taking in strays that mysteriously appeared at her doorstep. Caroline enjoyed the time she spent at her morning aquatic exercise class with her lady friends at the Port Clinton Yacht Club. She also loved to travel and play pinochle. She treasured the friendships of her classmates and looked forward to the class reunions and luncheons. Caroline loved all things nautical, especially lighthouses and sailboats. The last few years of her life were spent in the loving care of her daughter, Valerie. Her favorite cat, Butterscotch, was a loyal companion, keeping vigilance at her side throughout the last days of her earthly journey. Although dementia robbed her of her memories, it never touched her gentle soul. Rest in peace, Mom. You earned it. To cherish Caroline's memory are daughters Vicki Greer of Oak Harbor and Valerie (Gregg) Boss of Port Clinton; grandchildren Ryan (Bonnie) Greer of North Olmsted and Tiffany (Trent) Frisch of Port Clinton; great -grandchildren Braden and Caleb Greer and Austin Frisch. Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Geraldine Rohde; sister Helen (Delbert) Potts; an infant sister, Margaret; and infant great-grandson, Dawson Frisch.
