Carol Ann Even, 73, of Catawba Island, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2014. She was born on August 15, 1940 in Crofton, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Anton and Hilda (Jilg) Lenzen. She grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, where she graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, and then met the love of her life, James P. Even. They were married on September 23, 1961 and moved to Medina, Ohio in 1966. After raising her family, she went to work at the former Central Reserve Life Insurance Company in Strongsville, Ohio. In 1993, Jim and Carol moved to Catawba Island, where she worked for many years as a hostess in the breakfast room at the Sleep Inn Hotel and Country Inn and Suites in Port Clinton. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead where she was active in the Altar-Rosary Society; member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Brunswick, Ohio and Port Clinton; member of the Isabella Guild at Holy Martyrs Church in Medina, Ohio; and volunteered as a teacher's aide at the Hickory Ridge Elementary School in Brunswick. Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family. She was a good friend to many and was always helping others. She loved to fish on Lake Erie, often catching more perch or walleye than anyone else on the family boat. Survivors include her husband of 52 wonderful years: Jim; children: Jim Jr. (Susette) Even of Solon, Ohio; Tony (Jackie) Even of Strongsville, Ohio; Cathy (Mike) Langford of Cincinnati, Ohio; Diane (Dean) Dolata of Aurora, Ohio; and Mari Jo (Scott) Westfall of Stow, Ohio; Affectionate grandmother of Bryan, Ben, Megan, Kerri, Alex, Jessie, Jacob, Joe, Adam, Jared, Julia, Ryan, Tom, and Anthony; Loving sister to Bonnie Brown of Dallas, Texas; Sandy (Jack) Berger of Sioux City, Iowa; and Dan (Sherry) Lenzen of Sioux City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents: Anton and Hilda (Maury Visnow) Lenzen and her brother David Lenzen. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where the rosary will be recited at 7pm by members of the St. Joseph Altar-Rosary Society. On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, additional visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead from 9am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, with Father Daniel J. Ring officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead or to the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus.
