Carl Gustav Miller, 93, of rural Elmore, and more recently of the Assisted Living at Genoa Retirement Village, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in Mercy St. Charles Hospital with his loving son and daughter at his side. He was born on October 14, 1918 to Michael & Amelia (Goltz) Miller who both immigrated to the United States from Germany. Though he was American born he was extremely proud of his German heritage. His family moved to a farm near Elmore on his 15th birthday which started his life as a farmer. On January 29, 1944, he married Martha E. Wolfe in Latcha, Ohio, and together they shared a long and wonderful life. Along with farming, Carl took a job with New York Central Railroad, which later became Penn Central, then Conrail, and retired in 1982 after 30 years of service. In 1988, he joined Woodville Mutual Insurance Company and worked with them as a director until 1993. Carl was known to many in the Elmore area for his beautiful Belgian draft horses which grazed in the pasture around the homestead barn. There were times that he would harness them and take them to the field to work the ground, as he had done as a young man when he first was introduced to farming, but for the most part they were his giant pets which he loved. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore, Lin-Mor Farm Council and the GBU & GAF. He enjoyed music, especially polkas, beautiful waltzes and just about anything German. Those who loved him and knew him well were richly blessed. He was a wonderful man, known by many, respected by all, and will truly be missed. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Ed (Kathy) Miller of Oregon, Ohio; daughter, Rita (Rich) Henzler, Lake Township; grandchildren, Anissa (Shane) Yoder, Michael Miller, David (Michelle) Miller; great-grandchildren, Jacob Sherwood, Shaner and Kiana Yoder, Madison and Tyler Miller; sister, Ruth (Bill) Simon, and brother-in-law, Earl Wolfe. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 W. State Route 51. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2012 with additional visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa, Ohio. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, Ohio or to a charity of the donor's choice.
